Creative Development - Rodell
As much as my time with EUIP is about professional and spiritual development, I have also been diving into my own creative development. This has been a process of learning how to love my ideas, paying close attention to the world around me, and of course, finding inspiration in other artists doing incredible things. Here’s a couple artists that have been influencing me over these past couple months:
Tierra Whack is changing the game. Her latest album, Whack World, is 15 tracks long, with each song clocking in at only one minute. Each song is unique and leaves you wanting more, as it drifts off into the next idea. But Whack World is nowhere close to sounding rushed or incomplete. In fact, what I find so amazing about the album is it’s ability to fully flesh out emotions and concepts in such a short amount of time.
This Tiny Desk Concert is a spiritual experience for me. Saying that Saba is a vivid songwriter and storyteller isn’t enough. Saba can rappity rap with the best of them. You can hear the influence of jazz, not just in the instrumentation, but in the unpredictable flow of Saba’s rapping. You truly never know which pockets his voice will juke into. There’s a freedom and effortlessness to it all that inspires me to pick up my own pen.
